Instructional League Program
Instructional League was created to provide third to sixth grade players the opportunity to learn field hockey through match play on a surface (astroturf) conducive for learning basic technical skills of the game. The program rises out of our a partnership and joint commitment with Hofstra University Field Hockey to grow youth field hockey on Long Island.
The site for the Instructional League Program is Hofstra University Field Hockey Stadium – all program sessions take place on the stadium’s astroturf.
Professional Instruction
All players are evaluated and placed in appropriate instructional groups. Each group is assigned one coach from Lasting Legacy’s High Performance coaching staff and an assistant. All players will benefit from a low player to coach ratio.
Players learn the game from a carefully designed, progressive field hockey curriculum where each session builds on the skills learned in previous sessions. Passing and receiving on the run, elimination and tracking with speed, channeling defense, and goal scoring are taught by our experienced coaching staff.
League Matches (Games)
Match play is critical to the development of our field hockey players. All players are assigned to a team and each team roster is held to a maximum of 12 players. Part of each session is dedicated to match play or short-sided games. Please Note: Match play is dependent upon the number of players registered.
